My love for crochet started last summer, July specifically. I saw a video on Tik Tok and I haven’t looked back. I got a kit off of Amazon and the first thing I ever made was a penguin. It is so calming and mindful. It is the first creative thing I have ever done at I am actually good at.

If you couldn’t tell it is a penguin a slightly wonky penguin at that because counting is very important. I found this out when I finished this project. I think this is still my favorite out of all the different things I have crocheted. It is perfectly imperfect at bit like all of us. If you are starting your crochet journey Amazon is a great place to start.
The list are lessons I have learnt and things I would tell a newbie crocheter:
- As much as it a cliche patience and practice are really the only ways you will improve.
- Youtube videos are great for tips and finding tutorials to watch.
- Acrylic yarn is fine to use don’t listen to the yarn snobs out there especially whilst you are learning.
- try using a yarn hook with a rubber handle, the skinny metal ones can make your hands and wrist sore.
- Start getting to grip with the basic stitches before starting to make any cuddlies
